Our Research Team provides opportunities for graduate (and undergraduate by approval) students who have interests in research projects related to career development. The team supports individual as well as collective research projects to inform career theory and practice. The team’s publications and presentations are presented below.

Dr. Osborn is a Professor and Co-Director of Psychological and Counseling Services in the Educational Psychology and Learning Systems Department at Florida State University. She received her PhD in Combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology from Florida State University in 1998. She also co-directs the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She is both a Fellow and Past President of the National Career Development Association. Dr. Osborn’s program of research includes: identifying predictors of and best practices for increasing positive career outcomes and decreasing negative outcomes; applying career-related theory (especially Cognitive Information Processing theory) in research and practice; designing and using assessments in career services; and exploring the role technology can play in enhancing and extending services. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and quilting.

V. Casey Dozier, Ph.D., NCC
Dr. Dozier is the Program Director of Instruction, Research, and Evaluation at the Florida State University Career Center, Teaching Faculty of Psychological and Counseling Services in the Educational Psychology and Learning Systems Department at Florida State University, and Co-Director of The Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development (Tech Center). She earned her PhD in the Combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology program at Florida State University, and her professional qualifications include being a Licensed Psychologist (State of Florida) and a National Certified Counselor (NBCC). Her publications include refereed journal articles, book chapters, and national presentations. Dr. Dozier has provided clinical interventions in a variety of settings, with an emphasis on personal and career counseling to assist college students of all ages. Her professional passions are supervision and training, underserved populations, work-life balance, and integrating theory, research, and evidence-based practice.

Jackie is a doctoral student in the Combined Counseling and School Psychology, Ph.D. program at Florida State University. She earned a Master of Science and Education Specialist degree in Counseling and Human Systems from Florida State University, with a major in Career Counseling. Jackie currently works in the Athletic Department as an Athletic Academic Coordinator where she helps students identify their major and career goals while maintaining their athletic eligibility. Jackie’s research interests include the intersection of career concerns, mental health and career transition. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, eating at local restaurants, and taking advantage of the outdoor activities in the Tallahassee community.
Qualandria S. Brookens, MS
Qualandria S. Brookens is a doctoral student in the combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology program at Florida State University. Qualandria has a Master of Science degree in Counseling from Bethune-Cookman University. Qualandria also earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and minor in French from Bethune-Cookman University. Qualandria has experience teaching K-12 level and career coaching emerging adults. Qualandria is currently working as a graduate assistant in the Human Service Clinic and teacher assistant for SSDS 3340: Introduction to Career Development. Her research interests include: research and program evaluation of career development programs, working with underserve, minorities, and/ or international population, exploring the intersection between mental health and career development, purpose as a career, impact of fatalistic on career development, identity development in adolescent and emerging adulthood. In her free time, Qualandria enjoys hanging with family and friends, journaling, mentoring, traveling and exploring the world, engaging in thrill-seeking activities and reading self-help books.

Jake Bucher is a doctoral student in the combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology program at Florida State University. His research interests include anxiety in career decisions of undergraduate students, mental health in LGBTQ+ individuals and how this relates to career anxiety, minorities and the challenges they face in career decision-making. Along with individuals with ADHD and their process with choosing a career path. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his friends and family, traveling, and cooking.

Kelechi graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and minor in French and Francophone studies. She has had diverse work experiences including positions in Social Work, Behavior Therapy and Clinical Services. Her research interests include the intersection of career and mental health, effective career intervention for minority populations, and career outcomes for students with learning disabilities. In her spare time, Kelechi enjoys watching action movies, catching up with friends, and getting snuggles from her dog.

His research interests include the intersectionality of career and mental health of first-generation college students. She currently works at FSU Transfer Student Services as the success coach. Her research interests include the impact of discrimination against gender, sexuality, or race/ethnic on career development among college and university students and finding buffer factors which reduce the influence of discrimination on their career development based on Psychology of Working Theory. Jillian is pursuing her M.S./ Ed.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Florida State University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with minors in Education and Child Development. Jillian currently works at the FSU Career Center as a Career Advisor where she assists students with their career development goals. She is also actively gaining clinical experience as a K-8 School Counseling Intern at Florida State University Schools (FSUS). Jillian’s research interests include the intersectionality of career, mental health, and behavioral concerns among students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In her spare time, Jillian enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, and exploring the Tallahassee area.

Jacob Stamm is a doctoral candidate in the combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology Ph.D. program at Florida State University. Jacob earned his Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Indianapolis and his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Purdue University (IUPUI). He currently works as a Career Advisor at the FSU Career Center. Jacob’s research interests include mental health and career development especially within the athletic setting and career transitions. Jacob plans to continue his education and training with the goal of becoming a licensed counseling psychologist working with adults and athletes. Outside of academics, Jacob enjoys running, cycling, spending time with his family and friends, being involved in his church, and attending sporting events.
Rachael Stickle, B.S.
Rachael is pursuing her M.S./ Ed.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Florida State University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration. Currently, she is gaining practical experience as an intern at Bright Future Behavioral Health Inc., working as a mental health counselor. Rachael’s research interests include the career transitions of college students and career outcomes for students with intellectual disabilities. Outside of her professional and academic pursuits, Rachael enjoys reading, building Legos, spending time with friends and family, and exploring new restaurants around town.

Carlin is a doctoral student in the Combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology Ph.D. program at Florida State University (FSU). She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Augusta University and her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and Bachelor’s of Arts in Criminal Justice from Mercer University. Currently, Carlin is serving as a Career Advisor at the FSU Career Center. Her research interests include exploring motivations behind a work “calling,” aspects of identity and their relation to career decision-making, the intersection between mental health and career with a focus on childhood adversity, and the advancement of career assessment. She has had clinical experience in an integrated primary care clinic and private practice, where she provided psychotherapy and comprehensive psychological evaluations to individuals aged 2 to 90 years old. In her free time, Carlin enjoys exercising, spending time with loved ones, traveling, and exploring new restaurants.
Bobbi Villarreal, M.S.
Bobbi is a doctoral candidate in the Combined Counseling and School Psychology Ph.D. program at Florida State University. She earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University. She is currently working at the FSU Career Center as a Career Advisor. Her research interests include career transitions of student-athlete, military, and law enforcement populations and the intersection between career and mental health. Bobbi enjoys spending time with loved ones, watching sporting events, and exploring new places to eat.
