Certificates are a great way to expand your career opportunities, enhance your degree, and explore particular areas of interest within the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. Certificate programs include a specific set of coursework that is noted on your transcript upon completion.
Admission to a certificate program is required; students are not enrolled in a certificate program by virtue of being enrolled in related courses. Students must first apply to and be admitted to both the university and to the certificate program in order to be considered enrolled. IMPORTANT: In order to be eligible for admission to a graduate certificate program, an applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution.
Florida State University requires a course-by-course credential evaluation for all applicants with degrees from non-U.S. institutions. International and domestic applicants with degrees from international institutions must submit official transcripts for review and approval. See the “Transcript Requirement” section on The Graduate School website for detailed information on University transcript requirements for graduate admission.
- Step 1: Apply for admission to the University (select one):
- Non-Degree Seeking
- Degree Seeking
Florida Residency Form: If you are a Florida resident, you must complete the Florida Residency Affidavit, even if you were previously designated a Florida Resident by the university. If you do not complete this form, you will be classified as a non-Florida resident for tuition purposes
- Step 2: Complete the appropriate Certificate Admissions Form
- The online Certificate Admissions Form must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the end of the semester in which the second certificate course is completed.
Admission to the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) certificate programs requires submission of an online Certificate Admissions Application to the appropriate department Certificate Program Coordinator and the Registrar’s Office prior to the completion of two courses in the certificate program (grades posting). Please see the respective certificate website links listed below for the online application and contact information.
For graduate certificate programs completed in Fall 2024 and after, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (“B”) or better with no grade below a ”C-“ across all graduate courses applied toward the certificate must be achieved. All certificate program coursework must be completed within 7 years of first enrolling in the certificate program.
Important: All graduate certificate program coursework completed while enrolled as an non-degree seeking student must be completed with a grade of B or better (B- is not acceptable), and must be completed within 7 years of first enrolling in graduate coursework, to be eligible for approval as graduate transfer credit into a graduate degree program at Florida State University. By University policy, graduate coursework completed with an earned grade of B- or lower, is not eligible for approval as transfer credit into a graduate degree program.
After all certificate coursework is completed, but no later than 2 weeks after grades post, an online Certificate Completion Form must be filled out and submitted to the department Certificate Program Coordinator. Approved completion forms will be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office for processing and posting to the official transcript. Please see the respective certificate website links listed below for the online Certificate Completion Form and contact information.
