GREAT COMMUNITIES START WITH GREAT SCHOOLS. GREAT SCHOOLS START WITH GREAT TEACHERS.

TRAINING MATTERS

Classrooms across the country are always in need of new teachers. The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State will prepare you to meet the demands of the classroom and thrive in this rewarding profession. Research has shown that good teachers can have a profound impact on student achievement, and the influence of an effective teacher can impact a student’s academic career long-term. If you want to be an effective teacher who can make a difference in your students’ lives, it is essential that you have the best possible training and preparation for the job. That’s where we come in!

TEACHER PREPARATION AT ITS BEST

Here in the FSU College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, you’ll find your home away from home. Our close-knit community offers a small school atmosphere rarely found at a major research university, providing you with unique and valuable experiences both in and out of the classroom. The FSU College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences is filled with students compelled to educate the world and make a difference in the lives of future generations.

Florida State University is also one of three preeminent institutions in the state of Florida that offers state-approved teacher preparation programs. The combined bachelor’s/master’s degree pathways at FSU will provide you with a firm foundation in research-based teaching practices and multiple opportunities to apply these practices through fieldwork in K-12 classrooms. As a student here, you’ll complete field experiences every semester, as well as a semester-long internship, letting you apply what you’re learning in real classrooms. Because of this rigorous preparation, you’ll be ready to teach on day one and better equipped than those who complete only a bachelor’s degree.

CAREER READY AND PREPARED TO EXCEL

Because all of our teacher preparation programs are state-approved, you’ll be eligible for the highest level of certification in Florida – the Professional Educator’s Certificate – as soon as you graduate. The professional certificate allows you to teach without worrying about meeting additional certification requirements during your first few years of teaching. Your completion of a state-approved program will also make you more marketable for teaching positions across the country. Principals know that hiring our graduates is a seamless process because they come prepared and fully certified.

Additionally, because you will graduate with your master’s degree, you will be eligible for higher pay in many states beginning in your first year of teaching. Teachers with master’s degrees can earn as much as 44% more than those holding only bachelor’s degrees.

Having your master’s degree will also open the door to new job opportunities beyond the classroom, such as leadership roles in school districts, state education agencies, corporate or non-profit organizations, or higher education institutions.

With five different majors to choose from, you’re sure to find a program that fuels your passion for helping others. Click the links below to learn more about each of our BS/MS teacher education pathways:
