The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies’ Relevant Research Roundtable (R3) series offers research presentations and graduate student development sessions throughout the academic year. The research sessions, where faculty (departmental, college and university) and advanced graduate students present their latest research, are intended to build a culture of scholarly inquiry and engagement. The graduate student development sessions, hosted by departmental faculty, are designed to assist students in various aspects of graduate studies and career development. Sessions are live-streamed for remote viewing and recorded for later viewing.

"The Art of Storytelling: How Narrative Approaches Can Support The Research Process"
In this seminar, Dr. Alounso Gilzene leads a discussion on the role stories and storytelling can play in research inquiry. Reflecting on his dissertation work which examined the decision-making processes of the school leaders in Metro Detroit, Dr. Gilzene discusses how he was challenged by a mentor to find a way to incorporate a passion of his, writing short stories, into his research work. This presentation is meant to start a dialogue around research and the ways we as researchers can include our histories meaningfully in our work.
