Dr. Kadir Kozan is an assistant professor of Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University. Dr. Kozan holds a PhD in Learning, Design and Technology from Purdue University where he also worked at School of Engineering Education and Department of Educational Studies previously.

Dr. Kozan’s research focuses on how to enhance human learning and performance in diverse (formal, informal & nonformal) educational and professional contexts (online education, STEM, engineering education, workplace, workforce education, special education, instructional design, and UX design & research). Of particular interest for his research are cognitive load, presence, and learning strategies in technology-enhanced learning and performance contexts. His three main lines of research consist of understanding how to: 1) optimize cognitive load; 2) increase teaching, cognitive and social presence; and 3) employ effective learning strategies in technology-enhanced learning and performance contexts. Out of this research box, Dr. Kozan is also very interested in science of educational science or how to increase the quality of educational research through big data.

Dr. Kozan’s research employs a wide variety of methodologies (quant, qual, action, mixed-method, design-based research) and tools (automated content analysis, topic modeling, sentiment analysis). The ultimate purpose is to design, develop and evaluate sustainable and scalable learning and performance systems including technologies. To this end, he also runs a research group called ALPS (advanced learning and performance systems).

Dr. Kozan has also been reviewing for and got published in notable journals in the field (e.g., The Internet and Higher Education, Computers & Education, and Educational Research Review) thereby leading to theoretical, practical and methodological contributions. He is also a dedicated supporter of rigorous open science and publishing that is free and open to the public/humanity.

Dr. Kozan typically teaches courses related to Instructional Design, Performance Improvement and Data Analysis including Intro to Systematic Instructional Design, Performance Systems Analysis, A Systems Approach to the Management of Change, Data Analysis and Reporting in Learning Design and Performance Technology (LDPT) and Applications of Research Methods in LDPT.
